Client-Centered, Sensory-Friendly Physical Therapy Services

Ascent Physical Therapy

Ascent PT & the AWP Campus

An amazing synergy

Ascent PT is housed and is part of the Ascent Wellness Campus - an accessible space that focuses on providing quality services that can support physical rehabilitation, while paying attention to the possible long term benefits of movement after the PT appointments end. PT clients can, then, have access to low cost clinically informed movement, nutrition and mindfulness services as well as they will be part of the AWP community.

See what Ascent PT specializes in below and why it is such a great addition to the AWP campus!

Why Ascent PT?

Physical and mental health services are oftentimes provided in a disjointed manner and are not informed on trauma-sensitivity, especially after injury. Ascent PT aims to support a better integration of services. Ascent PT is housed in a network with mental health professionals, who can be informative in cases of physical trauma, pain management and more.

Ascent PT has a direct referral process to clinically-informed, continued care wellness services such as fitness, yoga & mindfulness and nutrition through Ascent Wellness Program. We can advise what can be helpful to maintain the benefits from PT practice and reach long-term goals.

Ryan Garman, PT

Ascent PT Lead Physical Therapist

Shane Slaasted graduated from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee with a bachelor's in Kinesiology. During his undergraduate years, he was a personal trainer/group exercise fitness instructor for college students and provided functional fitness/body mechanics education to the general population. After these years studying and working with clients, Shane followed his professional interests by obtaining a license as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA).

As a PTA, Shane has experience in serving patients with varying physical health concerns such as orthopedic, chronic pain, post-operative and joint replacement rehabilitation and TMJ and vestibular issues. In his past experiences with rehabilitation services and patient care, Shane was also a traveling PTA. Shane states that this role really helped him learn  and adapt his own technical and communication skills as well as exercise instruction to meet each individual's needs.

With all of this experience and his true client-centered approach we welcome Shane to both our Ascent Wellness Program and Ascent PT clinic! He has an approach that both informs and empowers clients to learn about their own body mechanics and will listen to client’s preferences to create truly enjoyable sessions! Plus, he will have a focus on adaptive fitness and pain management! This means that he will meet you where you are at in terms of mobility and experience while also being aware of the injuries you’ve had in the past.

Interests! Shanes enjoys powerlifting, circuit training, running and biking as well as taking his two doggos for walks.  He also enjoys exploring outdoor activities, and has a passion for camping, hiking, and fishing and is always open to a new adventure.

Jill Schutz

Ascent PT Intake Specialist

Jill Schutz is the Intake Specialist for Ascent Physical Therapy. She ensures that all clients are able to receive timely, accessible services after their referrals are sent over. By keeping client’s charts up to date and organized, she helps our Physical Therapist continue to provide client-centered care. She will likely be the first face you see as you walk through the doors of AWP’s building. She enjoys welcoming clients into our space, and providing a comfortable area to relax in before and after sessions. In addition to PT Intake, Jill works as the Front Desk Specialist and Youth Intake Specialist.

Originally from the Chicagoland area, Jill came to Milwaukee for school, and fell in love with the community-oriented feel of the city. She graduated from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a BA in English, concentrating on Technical and Professional writing. She hopes to use her educational background as she grows with AWP.

In her free time, Jill enjoys being outdoors. Kayaking and taking walks with her pups are two of her favorite pastimes. Cooking is another passion of hers, which she finds very therapeutic. Jill believes in AWP’s mission of interconnecting mental and physical health. She is excited for the opportunity to be a part of such a unique and wonderful team!
